In a major relief for property tax defaulters, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced a special amnesty scheme, ‘Abhay Yojana’, which will be implemented from March 1 to March 31, 2026. Under this scheme, citizens will receive a massive 90% waiver on delayed payment penalties on outstanding property tax dues.

Property tax is a key revenue source for urban development, supporting essential civic services such as roads, water supply, healthcare, education, sanitation, and other infrastructure projects. The civic body has reiterated that timely payment of taxes is a civic responsibility and directly contributes to the city’s growth.

So far, over 5 lakh property owners in the city have responded positively, contributing around ₹747 crore in property tax revenue. To accelerate recovery, PCMC has deployed special recovery teams across its 18 ward offices, directly contacting defaulters and running awareness campaigns through newspapers, social media, and other communication platforms.

However, around 2,12,440 property holders still have pending dues. The civic administration has urged these defaulters to clear their outstanding taxes without delay.

Key Features of ‘Abhay Yojana’:

* Applicable to residential, non-residential, industrial properties and open plots

* 90% waiver on penalty (interest/late fee) on delayed property tax payments

* Benefit available only on one-time full payment of the total outstanding amount

* Scheme valid from March 1 to March 31, 2026

* Includes arrears up to the financial year 2025–26

The scheme is expected to provide significant financial relief to thousands of defaulters while boosting municipal revenue collection before the end of the financial year.

Official Statements

“The municipal corporation’s ‘Abhay Yojana’ is a promise of trust to citizens. A 90% waiver on delayed payment penalties is being given to reduce the financial burden on defaulters. Every citizen’s participation is vital for the city’s development. We urge people to take advantage of this limited-time opportunity and clear their pending property tax before March 31.”

— Ravi Landge, Mayor, Pimpri-Chinchwad

“If the outstanding amount is paid in full between March 1 and March 31, 2026, a 90% waiver on penalties will be applicable. This scheme applies to all categories of properties. Defaulters should immediately contact their respective ward offices and complete the payment. After the deadline, the regular recovery process will resume.”

— Shravan Hardikar, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation

The PCMC administration has appealed to all defaulters to use this one-time opportunity and clear their dues within the stipulated period to avoid stricter recovery action after March 31, 2026.
