The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued a notice to the owner of the land to pay a fine for air pollution due to the fire that broke out from the industrial waste on the vacant land in Morwadi. The owner of the land has been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10 lakh for air pollution & burning of industrial waste at the vacant land in Morwadi.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sanjay Kulkarni, Joint City Engineer (Environment), PCMC, said “We have issued a notice to the land owner & have issued a fine of Rs 10 Lakh. The deadline of paying the fine is 8 days. If the land owner fails to pay the fine within 8 days’ time, the fine will be attached to their property tax.”

The fire was smoldering for three days. The fire was extinguished by throwing soil. Due to this fire, a large amount of poisonous smoke was created in the area, which posed a threat to the health of the citizens. Accumulation of industrial waste in open spaces and leading to fires posed a threat to the lives of citizens. Therefore, a fine of Rs 10 lakhs has been imposed on the land owner.
