In a strong action against noise pollution, the Pimpri-Chinchwad City Police destroyed nearly 400 illegally modified silencers fitted on two-wheelers by crushing them with a bulldozer on Thursday.

These silencers, commonly used on Bullet-style motorcycles and other two-wheelers, were creating excessive and disruptive noise, causing widespread public nuisance across the city.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police have also taken penal action against vehicle owners using such modified silencers. In addition, notices have been issued to shopkeepers found selling illegal noise-amplifying silencers.

According to police data, over the last 14 months, action has been taken against nearly 16,000 two-wheeler riders, and fines amounting to approximately ₹1.5 crore have been recovered from violators.

Police officials stated that this drive will not be stopped and similar enforcement actions will continue in the future to curb noise pollution and ensure public safety.

“This action will continue in the coming days. We are committed to taking strict measures against vehicles creating excessive noise pollution,” said Vivek Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pimpri-Chinchwad.
