Pune, November 25, 2025: A high-level meeting was held today at the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner’s Office to discuss measures aimed at reducing accidents caused by heavy and oversized vehicles. The review meeting focused on enforcement, safety checks and regulatory compliance for operators across the region.
Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, PMRDA Additional Commissioner Mr. Shingla, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner of Police Sarang Awad, DCP Traffic Vivek Patil, DCP Zone 2 Vishal Gaikwad, RTO officer Sandesh Chavan, Deputy RTO Rahul Jadhav and other officials were present.
Officials discussed several key measures and agreed on the following decisions:
- Action Against Illegal RMC Plants:
PMRDA will issue notices to Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants whose vehicles are operating in violation of norms. Unlicensed RMC units will face closure and removal action. - Speed Limit Fixed at 30 kmph:
Heavy vehicles will now be restricted to a maximum speed of 30 kmph. Compliance will be verified using GPS monitoring and speed guns to ensure vehicles follow the revised limit. - Joint Safety and License Checks:
The RTO, Traffic Department and Local Police will jointly conduct safety inspections of heavy vehicles, verify driver licences and provide on-site training at RMC plant locations. The training will focus on road safety awareness and adherence to traffic rules. - Mandatory Co-Drivers and Safety Equipment:
To prevent accidents caused by rear-wheel run-overs involving dumpers, hyvas and concrete mixers, the RTO will mandate the presence of a co-driver/cleaner in such vehicles. Additional requirements will include side bumpers, wheel-covering safety guards and rear-view cameras.
Authorities have stated that strict enforcement of these measures is essential to curb rising accidents and ensure better safety standards across the Pimpri Chinchwad region.
