Pimpri-Chinchwad Reports Seven Suicides in Two Days, Raising Concerns

PUNE: The Pimpri-Chinchwad area is witnessing a concerning increase in suicides, prompting alarm among residents and authorities. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) reported seven suicide cases—six on January 27 and one on January 26—raising concerns over the growing number of such incidents in the city.

The first case involved 28-year-old Gaurav Dnyaneshwar Agam, who was found hanging near a window in the Chakan Police Station area on Monday morning. Later that day, 31-year-old Prasad Sanjay Avachat from Punawale also died by suicide by hanging.

In another tragic incident, 35-year-old Vikas Ramdas Murgund was discovered hanged with a saree at a chawl in Bhosari around noon. Meanwhile, 52-year-old Manappa Somalya Chavan from Shinde Wasti, Mulshi, was found hanging from a lemon tree near his home.

Additionally, 46-year-old Navnath Bhagwan Pawar from Thergaon was found hanging in his bedroom around midnight, with further investigations underway. Late Monday night, 36-year-old Suvarna Shriram Pawar from Old Sangvi was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in her home.

The seventh incident occurred on Sunday when 40-year-old Dinesh Suresh Lokhande from Chikhali jumped from the eighth floor of his apartment building. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

The rise in suicides has raised serious concerns among authorities and residents. Police are actively investigating each case to understand the underlying causes and are considering preventive measures to address this distressing trend.
