Pune, June 23, 2023 : The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) runs an animal welfare centre in the Nehru Nagar area, especially for the sterilization of stray dogs. It was started in collaboration with the PCMC, Canine Control and Care, and People for Animals (PFA). The civic body will soon install 100 more kennels to undertake surgeries of stray animals at the center.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sandip Khot, Deputy Commissioner, PCMC Veterinary Department, said, “The animal welfare centre was started at Nehrunagar around 5 months ago. PCMC is vigilant about the increasing number of births in stray dogs and no proper medical care for them. Hence, sterilization of stray dogs is the primary focus. Till now, around 2500 dogs have undergone surgeries in the centre. We are sure that the number will increase.”

The PCMC is going to add more 100 kennels, which will increase its capacity to 230 kennels, in the coming time in collaboration with Bajaj Foundation for which the tendering is done & soon the work of building these 100 kennels will start.
