PMC gives nod to phase 2 of Pune Metro.

Pune: In a significant stride towards transforming Pune’s transportation landscape, the Pune Metro has planned to expand connectivity to more areas with Metro Phase 2 commencing soon. As per information, the standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved the second phase of the Pune Metro rail project. In phase 2, MahaMetro plans to create an additional 113.23 kilometre route within the city.  

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dr Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director, Public Relations And Administration, Pune Metro said, “After launching service on the two routes from Pimpri Chinchwad to Shivajinagar court and Vanaz to Ruby Hall clinic station, the Pune metro has received positive feedback. The Pune Metro is on track to replace other modes of public transport as it continues to offer more services. The comprehensive project report for Pune’s phase 2 was recently accepted by the PMC standing committee.”

As per information, MahaMetro has created the detailed project report (DPR) for the second phase of the project, which calls for the creation of an additional 113.23 km route within the city.

25.64 km from Khadakwasla to Kharadi via Swargate and Hadapsar has been approved by PMC. It will include 22 stations, including Khadakwasla, Dalvewadi, Nanded City, Dhayari Phata, Manik Baug, Hingane Chowk, Rajaram Bridge, PL Deshpande Udyan, Dandekar pool, Swargate North, 7 Loves chowk, PCB, Race Course, Fatima nagar, Ramtekdi, Hadapsar, Magarpatta south, Magarpatta main, Magarpatta north, Hadapsar railway station, Sai Nath nagar chowk and Kharadi chowk, connecting Sinhagad road to Solapur road and Nagar road. On the line running from Swargate to Pimpri Chinchwad, this will facilitate residents’ access to other places.

The 6.12 km route from SNDT via Warje to Manikbaug will have stations at Paud Phata, Karve Putla, Dahanukar colony, Karve Nagar, Warje, and Daulat Nagar. It will connect with the metro line from Shivajinagar to Pimpri Chinchwad and provide connectivity from Sinhagad Road to Karve Road and cutting across the city to Nagar Road.

Viman Nagar, Somnath Nagar, Kharadi Bypass, Tulja Bhavani, Ubale Nagar, Upper Kharadi Road, Wagheshwar temple, Wagholi, Siddharth Nagar, Bakori Phata, and Vitthalwadi are the stations along the 11.63 km route from Ramwadi to Wagholi.

There are only two stations along the 1.12 km route from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk: Kharadi Bus Depot and Chandni Chowk. It will be a metro train extension from Vanaz and allow residents of Bangalore’s Mumbai Bypass to commute around the city.

Shreyas Vange
