The PMC solid waste department has prepared a list of places where garbage is dumped frequently in the city. Among them, 913 spots have been found to be garbage chronic spots.

Efforts have been made to eliminate them through both public awareness and punitive action. So far, only 161 places have stopped dumping waste.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sandip Kadam, Deputy Commissioner, PMC Solid Waste Management Department, said “The PMC has begun an exercise of identifying garbage chronic spots in Pune in which, so far, around 900 such spots have been identified. Chronic spots are those where garbage is dumped frequently. The PMC workers pick up garbage from everywhere, every day, however, we are planning to rid the issue of garbage dumping once & for all. Hence, this exercise is being carried out. It will go on for the next 3 months in which all the spots will be identified to stop garbage dumping for good.”

As per further information, due to the increasing extent, population, inadequate system for garbage collection and mentality of some citizens, garbage is being thrown on the streets, open spaces, drains and rivers in the city.
