Pune: In order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic movement, the civic administration has started removing major encroachments on the 6-kilometer stretch between Bhairoba Nullah Junction and Gadital Bus Stand on the Pune-Solapur highway.

As per information, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials have confirmed that they have identified some major encroachments along the highway stretch, which will be cleared to ensure consistent widening of the road. Some of the encroachments include parked cars by a resale dealership near Fatimanagar. Besides, a large tree and an old religious structure near Kalubai Chowk will be relocated to remove traffic bottlenecks. A fuel refilling station along the road in Vaiduwadi has also been identified for removal.

MSEDCL poles will also be moved. Work has started and the tendering process will begin shortly. PMPML, Pune police and other agencies are involved in the project. First, the cycle tracks will be removed. In case of shifting of permanent structures or trees, permission will be sought from the relevant authorities.

There are also plans to move the BRTS Medians which occupy a lot of the space along the road. The aim of the entire project is to widen the road so that three lanes can be provided on both sides for better vehicular circulation. There is also a plan to provide public parking under Gadital Flyover as there are no other parking spaces in the vicinity.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Chetan Tupe, MLA, NCP Party, said “The work of road widening from Bhairoba Nullah to Gadital Bus Stand has already begun. I have instructed the PMC and PMPML as well as the police department, to move the poles of MSEDCL which are blocking the road, to remove cycle tracks and footpaths on the flyover of Ramtekdi as they do not serve any purpose. Also, I have asked them to make sure that private buses are parked on the flyover of Ramtekdi and not at the Gadital Bus stand as they are parked in a haphazard manner. A total of Rs 5 crores budget is sanctioned for this exercise. Trees obstructing the road will also be removed. In 1 to 1.5 months, this entire work will be done.”
