To identify street dogs which have been sterilized and vaccinated, Pune Municipal Corporation plans to conduct a stray dog census. The programme aims to control the dog population in the city.

Pune Municipal corporation has failed to maintain the dog sterilization data and so, the census has been planned now.
Recently, PMC has appointed the agency QI Code Solutions to make an app for the census.

Sarika Funde, head of the PMC veterinary department, said “The agency has been appointed to create an app and also to carry out the dog census. The app will digitise the survey and store each dog’s data detailing colour, weight and gender. Knowing the exact number of sterilised dogs will help us identify those which have not been spayed or neutered. We can also vaccinate the dogs based on this census. We have instructed the agency to complete the census in a year’s time, but they have said that it can be done in six months.”
