15 child marriages stopped

The Pune City women and child care department successfully stopped 15 child marriages in 2022. The department has stopped 28 child marriages in the last three years, but only 5 cases have been registered in this regard.

The data shows that awareness about child marriage is still low in the city.

Under the act of prohibition of child marriage 2006, it is illegal to get a girl under 18 years and a boy under 21 married.

” Everyone should fight against child marriages and spread awareness about the same. It is a punishable offence,” said Ashwini kamble of City Women & child welfare. 

Advocate Rupali Patil said that government has to take strict action against those indulging in child marriages and also work towards creating awareness.
