Over the next three days, residents of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh can expect a gradual increase in maximum temperatures by 2 to 3°C. This rise will be accompanied by similar changes in minimum temperatures, with no significant fluctuations expected thereafter.

Heat wave conditions in isolated pockets of North Konkan from 27 to 29 April are expected to extend to Mumbai on 28 and 29 April. Similarly, isolated pockets of South Konkan, including Ratnagiri, are also likely to experience heat waves on 28th and 29th April.

In Marathwada, a similar pattern has been forecast, with both maximum and minimum temperatures gradually rising over the next three days, followed by stable conditions thereafter.

Meanwhile, in Konkan and Goa, maximum temperatures are set to increase by 2 to 3°C in the next three days, with hot and humid conditions prevailing thereafter. Isolated pockets of North Konkan will experience these conditions from 27th to 30th April, while South Konkan will be affected from 27th to 29th April.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe against the heat wave and hot/humid conditions:

  • Avoid prolonged heat exposure.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking sufficient water, even if not feeling thirsty, to avoid dehydration.
  • Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose cotton clothes.
  • Cover your head using a wet cloth, hat or umbrella while going out during peak hours.
  • Caution workers to avoid direct sunlight during peak hours and schedule strenuous jobs to cooler times of the day.
  • Increase the frequency and length of rest breaks for outdoor activities.
  • Recognize the signs of heat stroke, heat rash or heat cramps, such as weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, sweating and seizures. If you feel faint or ill, seek medical attention immediately.
  • Farmers are advised to continue irrigation activities to mitigate the effects of the rising temperatures.
