Pune Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Vikram Kumar prepares to present the budget for the upcoming financial year (2024-2025) causing a buzz amongst the Municipal circles on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
According to the speculation, the budget might surpass the ten thousand crore mark which has left the citizens curious about the innovative schemes and projects decided for introduction alongside existing initiatives such as water supply, river improvement projects and flyovers.

Moreover, as per the current situation, the expenditure is more than the income, causing delays in the current projects. Therefore, with the upcoming budget coming, it is reported that priority will first be given to old projects and schemes rather than the new ones to finish the earlier initiatives. A similar decision was made during the announcement of last year’s financial budget in March where the total budget was announced as Rs 9 thousand 566 crores, priority was first given to the ongoing projects.
Multiple ambitious projects including Metro lines, the Jaika Project, Mula-Mutha riverside conservation, and flyovers, are currently in progress, necessitating substantial financial allocations. However, the strain on the Municipal Corporation’s financial resources resulted in a possible budget deficit ranging from 1,500 to 1,700 crores.
The Public is eager to see how Vikram Kumar will income and expenditure amidst the financial challenges. Moreover, as the income tax has not increased, the Municipal Corporation will rely on conventional revenue resources such as the construction department, government subsidies, etc.Â
