In a welcome development for students of private coaching classes in Pune, the Pune Metropolitan Transport Corporation (PMPML) has announced a scheme to provide concessional bus passes.

Effective from August 15th, this initiative aims to make commuting more affordable for students and encourage them to utilize PMPML bus services for their daily travel needs.

Sachindra Pratap Singh, the recently appointed president of PMPML, shared this significant update with the media during a press interaction. The announcement event also saw the presence of key officials, including Nitin Narvekar, Joint Managing Director of PMPML, Chief Transport Manager Satish Gavane, Engineer Ramesh Chavan, Dattatray Zende, and Satish Gate.

PMPML, renowned for its extensive fleet of over two thousand buses, serves both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities. Presently, the corporation caters to a daily ridership of 10 to 12 lakh passengers across its 1700 buses. In a bid to further augment ridership and attract more commuters to PMPML services, the administration has taken the progressive step of offering discounted passes to students enrolled in private coaching classes.

Historically, PMPML had extended discounted passes exclusively to students studying in schools and colleges, subject to verification of their identity cards. With a significant number of students attending private coaching classes in Pune and the surrounding Pimpri-Chinchwad area, a substantial portion of these learners had resorted to personal vehicles or other modes of transportation due to the lack of discounted passes. However, the forthcoming concessional passes for private coaching class students are expected to incentivize them to opt for PMPML buses, thereby potentially alleviating traffic congestion on the city’s roads.

PMPML recognizes the substantial student populace attending private coaching classes in Pune. This endeavor aims to facilitate their travel by providing discounted passes, a move that has already been set into motion.

As Sachindra Pratap Singh, Managing Director of PMPML, affirmed, “The number of students studying in private classes in the city is large. These students will now be provided passes at discounted rates. The process for this has been started.”

With this new offering, PMPML aspires to not only enhance its ridership but also contribute to a more sustainable and efficient transportation ecosystem within Pune. The discounted passes for students of private coaching classes stand to make a positive impact on both the students’ convenience and the city’s overall traffic situation.
