Pune, February 16: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has decided to decentralize its operations. As part of this initiative, four regional offices will be set up, and one office will be established in each taluka within the jurisdiction.

This move will eliminate the need for citizens to visit the main office of the authority for their tasks.

The PMRDA’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year (2025-26) was approved in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. During the meeting, the administration presented a proposal to decentralize PMRDA’s operations, which was approved. The PMRDA’s jurisdiction spans 6,246 square kilometers and includes 697 villages across nine talukas. Currently, citizens from these villages must travel to Pune city for various tasks, which can be time-consuming and costly. This decision aims to reduce the inconvenience for citizens by providing essential services at the taluka level. The goal is to ensure that citizens do not have to travel frequently to the PMRDA’s main office.

Accordingly, regional offices will be set up in the east, west, north, and south directions of PMRDA’s jurisdiction, with sub-offices in every taluka. These offices will provide services to the public. Currently, PMRDA operates two offices—one in Akurdi, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and another in Aundh, Pune.

Services to be Provided at Taluka Offices:

  • Acceptance of building permission applications
  • Issuance of zone certificates
  • Monitoring of unauthorized constructions
  • Processing of land acquisition cases
  • Establishing fire-fighting systems
  • Acceptance of housing scheme applications
  • Filing of complaints
  • Implementation of development plans

The decision was made to ensure that citizens do not need to travel 30 to 40 kilometers to the main office. Instead, their work can be processed at the taluka-level offices. Officials from various departments related to citizen services will be available at these offices to assist with tasks like complaint resolution and building permission applications.
