Police Investigate Ekta Kapoor Following Allegations of Dishonoring Indian Soldiers

Court Directs Police to Probe Complaint Against Ekta Kapoor Over Web Series
Mumbai, February 16, 2025: A magistrate’s court in Bandra has ordered the Mumbai police to investigate a criminal complaint against film and television producer Ekta Kapoor for allegedly disrespecting Indian soldiers in a web series on her OTT platform, Alt Balaji. The court has sought a police report on the matter by May 9, 2025, under Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Complaint Details
The complaint was filed by YouTuber Vikas Pathak, popularly known as Hindustani Bhau, through his advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh. It names Ekta Kapoor, her OTT platform Alt Balaji, and her parents Shobha Kapoor and Jeetendra Kapoor.
According to the complaint, a web series streamed on Alt Balaji depicted a military officer in an “illicit sexual act” while wearing an Indian Army uniform featuring the national emblem.
The complaint states, “The accused have stooped to a cheap low and shamelessly targeted the dignity and pride of our country by depicting the Indian Army uniform in an illicit act.”
Court Order and Police Investigation
The Bandra magistrate’s court directed the police to conduct an inquiry and submit a report under Section 202 of the CrPC, which empowers the magistrate to order a preliminary investigation before taking cognizance of the complaint.
Legal and Public Reactions
The case has sparked debate on the limits of creative expression and respect for national symbols. Advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, representing Pathak, stated, “This portrayal disrespects the honour of our armed forces and must be legally addressed.”
