Against the backdrop of the recent controversy fuelled by social media comments from Maldivian ministers directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andaman and Nicobar Chief Secretary Keshav Chandra underscores the administration’s determined efforts to enhance tourism in the picturesque archipelago.

Amidst diplomatic discussions, the focus remains on promoting the region’s allure and inviting more visitors to experience its unique charm.

Chandra detailed the initiatives stating, “The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have pristine natural beauty, picturesque islands with beautiful sandy beaches offering a wide range of activities like sunbathing, snorkeling, swimming, game fishing, sunset/sunrise sighting, bird watching, trekking, kayaking etc.”

He shared that the administration has undertaken the development of a five-star property at Megapode in Port Blair through PPP mode and is leasing land at RadhaNagar Beach in Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island) to ensure more facilities for tourists.

Measures to enhance the nightlife experience are underway, including a night-cruise dinner facility at Port Blair, along with a houseboat and night kayaking.

Tourists can now relish the ethereal beauty of Andaman – Nicobar beaches during late-night hours as they are opened up for exploration. Initiatives are underway to engage with additional airline operators, fostering competition and ensuring affordable ticket prices for visitors to this captivating destination.

It’s worth noting that the government of the Maldives on Sunday suspended three deputy ministers for derogatory social media posts against Modi following his visit to Lakshadweep, suggesting an attempt to position the Union Territory as an alternative tourist destination to the Maldives.
