Protests Turn Violent in Pune as BJP Mahila Aghadi Targets Ashwini Nursing Home Following Woman's Death at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital
In Pune, tensions escalated when members of the BJP Mahila Aghadi attacked Ashwini Nursing Home, a hospital operated by the father of Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas. This act of vandalism followed allegations that Dr. Ghaisas had demanded a sum of 10 lakh from the family of Tanisha Bhise for treatment at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital.
The controversy centers around the tragic death of Tanisha Bhise, who was married to Sushant Bhise, a personal assistant to BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe. Her family claims that her death was a result of delayed medical treatment, allegedly due to the hospital’s refusal to proceed without upfront payment. The issue gained media attention, leading to public outrage and increased police presence around Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital.
Earlier in the day, around 11 a.m., supporters of the Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) clashed outside the hospital, both demanding action against the hospital administration. During the protests, Shirish Yadkikar, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, attempted to speak to the media but faced hostility, with protesters from the Thackeray faction reportedly throwing coins at him in anger.
As the protests intensified, the Patitpavan organization blackened the hospital’s signboard and held a demonstration. Following this, Harshada Farande, the city president of BJP Mahila Aghadi, led a protest outside Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital before heading to Ashwini Nursing Home, where her group vandalized the property.
In response to the attack, Dr. Neelima Ghaisas clarified, “Sushrut Ghaisas is my son, but he has no connection to this clinic. Our hospital was targeted without reason. My husband, my other son, and I have been running this hospital for 40 years.” The police have tightened security at both hospitals as investigations continue into the allegations and the vandalism incident.
