Meesho, a well-known e-commerce platform, is facing criticism for offering t-shirts that feature the image of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

The online platform has issued a public statement. Meesho, a prominent e-commerce platform, is currently under scrutiny for selling t-shirts that display the image of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

This issue was highlighted by filmmaker Alishan Jafri, who characterized it as a reflection of “India’s latest online radicalisation.

Jafri recently posted on X about the availability of Lawrence Bishnoi t-shirts on Meesho, an online marketplace that connects vendors with customers. These white t-shirts feature images of Lawrence Bishnoi, with some designs incorporating the term “gangster.”

The retail price for these t-shirts starts at just ₹168 on Meesho and similar platforms such as Flipkart.

The t-shirts have faced criticism for romanticizing criminal behavior; however, an even more alarming issue is that certain branded products are specifically aimed at children.

“People are literally selling gangster merchandise on platforms like Meesho and Teeshopper. This is just one example of India’s latest online radicalisation. At a time when the police and NIA are struggling to stop youths from joining gang crime, social media influencers are making quick money by promoting gang content and glorifying gangsters,” Jafri wrote on X.

Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gangster from India, along with his criminal organization, has been implicated in a series of high-profile offenses. These include the shooting of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala and issuing death threats to actor Salman Khan.

Meesho has taken action to remove the controversial product from its platform following public criticism. Earlier today, a search for “Lawrence Bishnoi” on the Meesho website would have displayed t-shirts featuring the gangster’s image; however, these items are no longer available for purchase.

“We have taken immediate action to deactivate the products. Meesho remains committed to providing a safe and trusted shopping platform for all our users,” says the response from Meesho.
