Pune: 400 Kothrud Residents Record Their Objection Over ‘Poor Planning’ Of Metro Station And Flyover Work
Pune, May 7, 2026: Residents and traders from Kothrud have launched a signature campaign opposing the alleged improper planning of the proposed metro station, bus depot and incomplete flyover projects in the area. Over 400 residents came together in 3 hours to record their objections.
Citizens claim that the current planning could lead to severe traffic congestion, pollution and inconvenience for residents in the future, especially along Paud Road, which is already witnessing increasing traffic pressure.
The campaign has been initiated with participation from local residents, shopkeepers, senior citizens, women and youth groups under the slogan: “Development is necessary, but with proper planning.”
Through the campaign, citizens plan to submit several demands to the administration, including integrated and scientific traffic planning for the metro station, bus depot and flyover projects.
Residents have also demanded that authorities announce alternative traffic management measures to reduce congestion on Paud Road and conduct an official public presentation before citizens, traders and traffic experts.
Among the key demands are acceptance of written suggestions and objections from local residents and making public a detailed report on the impact of the proposed development works.
Citizens warned that if decisions are taken without considering public opinion, a larger public agitation could be launched in the coming days.
Organisers said the signature campaign would continue at multiple locations across the Kothrud area over the next few days and appealed to residents to participate actively. A WhatsApp group has also been created to coordinate citizen participation and updates regarding the movement.
Local residents associated with the campaign include Rahul Chavan, Nilesh Saindane, Vishal Attal, Amit Botre, Anil Chaudhary, Vinod Mawani, Jyoti Kiran Patil, Monish Thakur and Parth Sonawane.
Residents stated that while they support development projects, the administration must ensure that infrastructure planning is carried out in a transparent and citizen-friendly manner.
