Pune : 50 year old tax consultant from Bavdhan duped by cyber fraudsters
Pune : A cautionary tale has emerged from Pune, where a 50-year-old tax consultant from Bavdhan area of the Pune city was recently scammed out of Rs. 28.85 lakh through an online task fraud, highlighting the risks associated with conducting business online.
According to the victim, the fraud was reported in between February to March 2023 when the accused contacted her via social media messaging and sent her a link to download a new social media app. The app instructed her to open an account to complete various online tasks, promising payment upon completion.
The victim was also convinced to invest in a cryptocurrency platform for higher returns. She invested Rs. 28.85 lakh as per the accused’s instructions, but failed to get assured returns on her investment.
Later she realised she had been duped. The victim promptly lodged a complaint with the Hinjewadi police station on May 10. An FIR has been registered under sections 406 and 420 of the IPC at the Hinjewadi police station, and the police are investigating the matter.
