Pune: AAP Alleges ₹392-Crore Corruption In Drainage Project Covering 11 Merged Villages

Pune, November 10, 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged large-scale corruption amounting to crores of rupees in the drainage line project of 11 villages — including Dhayari, Narhe, and Shivane — that were merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2017. Despite the issue being raised in the state legislature, the administration has failed to take any action over the last two years. In protest, AAP has decided to launch an intense public agitation.

AAP City President Dhananjay Benkar submitted a memorandum to the PMC Commissioner regarding this matter.

The administration had sanctioned a tender worth ₹392 crore for the drainage project in these 11 villages, and work had begun nearly five years ago. However, despite multiple deadline extensions, the project remains incomplete. It has been revealed that even though crores have been spent, none of the drainage lines are operational for public use, with poor-quality work evident across all sites.

According to Benkar, the poor quality and irregularities in the project were discussed in the legislature two years ago. The government had then directed PMC to get the work inspected by Pune Engineering College and submit a report on the quality and discrepancies. However, the report was never submitted.

In several areas — including Shivane, Dhayari, and Narhe — drainage lines have been laid directly into natural streams and nullahs without connecting them to residential or society pipelines. As a result, over 5,000 residents of the Ambai Dara Dhangar Vasti in Dhayari are suffering from severe stench and the risk of infectious diseases. Sewage overflow has created unhygienic conditions throughout the locality. Similar issues have been reported in Narhe and Shivane, where blocked drainage lines and unbearable odour have made life difficult for residents.

Moreover, after digging up roads for drainage work, fresh funds worth lakhs have been spent again on resurfacing, reflecting gross mismanagement and wastage of public money.

AAP has alleged collusion between contractors and officials, resulting in the misappropriation of ₹392 crore. Benkar has also reported receiving threat calls, warning him and party workers not to pursue the matter or file complaints.

AAP has warned that if the administration fails to take immediate cognizance and initiate strict action, a large-scale public agitation will be launched.

Those present during the press conference included Kiran Kadre (AAP Pune Spokesperson), Niranjan Adagale (Media Coordinator), Subhash Karande (Secretary), and Sunil Savdi.
