Pune: Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), held a protest outside a tribal hostel in Wakad, Pimpri Chinchwad, on Friday in response to the authorities’ failure to hoist the national flag.

The protestors expressed their disappointment, stating that the entire country was celebrating Independence Day, but the officials of the tribal student government hostel in Wakad did not bother to hoist the flag. They described it as an unfortunate incident that the flag was not raised at the government hostel near Pune, which played a significant role in the freedom struggle.

According to the information provided, when the hostel students inquired about the flag hoisting, they were given various reasons, such as a lack of pillars and rope, and the belief that it was unnecessary.

Anil Thombare, State Minister of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Western Maharashtra Region said, “There was enthusiasm throughout the country on Independence Day. However, the flag was not hoisted at the government hostel for tribal students in Wakad. ABVP demands immediate action against the irresponsible hostel officials.”

Pragati Karad, a member of the ABVP added, “Indian Independence Day is a matter of pride for all Indians. As India marks the completion of its Amrit Mahotsav year of independence, celebrations have been carried out through various activities, such as the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. However, at the government hostel in Wakad, the caretakers did not even make the effort to hoist the flag. Their flimsy responses when questioned about it are unacceptable. As a result, ABVP staged a protest at the site today, demanding strict action against the responsible hostel owner.”
