Pune : PMC Generates Over 850 Tonnes of Organic Compost Monthly from City’s Waste

Pune: The state government has approved the use of ‘Harit Maha City Compost Brand’ for the municipal wet waste composting project. Therefore, the Pune Municipal Corporation will be able to prepare organic fertilizer out of waste.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Asha Raut, PMC solid waste management department chief said, “Organic fertilizer of 850 tonnes per month is being produced out of waste. Separate wet and dry waste from the municipal corporation is processed. Compost has been manufactured from wet waste since July 2017.”

As per information, as many as 61,200 metric tonnes of organic fertilizers have been produced till July 2023 and this fertilizer has been made available to the farmers at a nominal rate.

Also, 150 tonnes waste ramp at Hadapsar and 350 tonnes capacity waste depot at Uruli Devachi have been set up. The wet waste coming here every day is spread on the floor and a biological decomposer is sprayed on the wet waste. After that, composting and  fertilizer creation takes place after 45 days.
