Pune: After Persistent Residents’ Push, Electric Pole Work Begins in NIBM Annexe Stretch
Pune, March 18, 2026:
Bringing long-awaited relief to residents of NIBM Annexe in Mohammadwadi, authorities have finally commenced work on installing electric poles along a key stretch in Prabhag 41.
The foundation work for the poles has been completed from SM Ghule Circle to Pristine Viva Society, marking a crucial step toward improving basic infrastructure in the area.
The project gained momentum following consistent follow-ups by local civic activist Jaymala Dhankikar, who had been raising the issue with the Pune Municipal Corporation and the electricity department for months. Residents had repeatedly highlighted the lack of street lighting, pointing to safety concerns for pedestrians, commuters, and senior citizens, particularly after dark.
According to Dhankikar, the poorly lit stretch had become prone to accidents and anti-social activities. She noted that despite being a busy connector for multiple residential societies, the absence of proper lighting remained a major concern until now.
Residents living in and around the Pristine Viva area have welcomed the move, calling it a much-needed step toward safer living conditions. Many pointed out that while the locality has seen rapid residential growth, civic infrastructure has lagged behind.
With the groundwork now completed, officials stated that the next phase will involve installation of poles and electrification, after which streetlights will be made operational. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly enhance visibility, improve road safety, and boost overall liveability in the area.
The development reflects ongoing efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps in Pune’s rapidly expanding suburban regions, where residents continue to demand essential civic amenities.
