Undri, Pune: After years of neglect, residents of Undri and Mohammadwadi have finally begun to see some relief as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started addressing long-pending civic issues in their locality. The move comes in the wake of persistent demands and active intervention by the Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation, which has been voicing concerns about the deteriorating infrastructure for over a decade.

Last week, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore personally visited Undri–Mohammadwadi to review the situation after residents raised complaints regarding poor roads, dysfunctional streetlights, and lack of basic civic amenities. During the visit and subsequent citizen interaction, residents highlighted the hardships they face daily due to crumbling infrastructure, unsafe roads, and inadequate maintenance.

Following the inspection, PMC has initiated visible action on multiple fronts. Tree trimming work around streetlights has begun, ensuring that lighting on key stretches is restored for better safety during night hours. Simultaneously, pothole filling and repair works have started, particularly on the Rama Dairy to Undri Marg stretch, which was in urgent need of attention. In addition, road repair works are being carried out to improve driving conditions and reduce the risk of accidents.

Responding to residents’ demand for road safety measures, PMC has also started applying thermoplastic road markings on accident-prone stretches. These markings are expected to help in curbing over-speeding, improving lane discipline, and enhancing the overall safety of commuters and pedestrians alike.

Residents expressed satisfaction at seeing the long-awaited works finally gaining momentum but emphasized that much more needs to be done. Issues such as major road widening, drainage improvements, footpath construction, and consistent waste management remain unresolved. They urged PMC to expedite the pending projects so that Undri and Mohammadwadi can finally receive the civic facilities they deserve as fast-growing urban neighborhoods.

Deepa Cheema, Director, Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation said, “Our MURWDF team had requested PMC commissioner Naval Kishor to visit our area and witness our apathy. He promptly visited and personally inspected the area along with his team. He patiently heard us out and assured us of resolving the issues. And the action has already begun, the roads are being repaired , amenity space area has been assured for making a garden, all this has taken place immediately after his visit. We are extremely grateful to him for his quick consideration and appreciate his support. Looking forward to a much cleaner, safer and well developed Pune.”

The Residents Welfare Foundation has assured that it will continue to engage with PMC, monitor the progress of works, and keep voicing community concerns until all pending commitments are fulfilled.

For now, the visible action has brought a sense of relief to citizens, who are hopeful that the momentum will continue and transform Undri into a well-planned and livable area.
