Residents living near Bhumkar Chowk, Wakad are troubled because of dust, air pollution, noise, etc due to the operations of Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants in the area.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sachin Londhe, Vice President, Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Society Federation, said “The severity of this is too much as the RMC plants’ dust is very much & residents are almost living in the dust by everytime closing their houses’ doors & windows. The PCMC Commissioner has been told about this for which he has visited the area & promised action.”

As per further information from the X handle of Sachin Londhe “Wakad Bhumkar chowk residents of this locality reside with disease-prone breathing air with high levels of airborne dust, primarily attributed to the operation of ten active Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants in close proximity.”

Dattatray Deshmukh, Chairman, Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Societies Federation, said “This is prevalent at Marunji-Tathawade border. There are 7 to 8 RMC plants there due to which health issues, air pollution etc is there. Roads are also not in good condition. People’s health has been affected by this. I have spoken with the PCMC Commissioner about this for which he has assured fast action. Hopefully, relevant & immediate action will be taken.”

The X handle of Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Society Federation says “The consistent emission of dust particles from these RMC plants has severely impacted the air quality, adversely affecting the health and well-being of the residents. The situation is further aggravated by the constant movement of tipper trucks and RMC mixer trucks in the area. These vehicles, often operating without adherence to speed limits, pose a significant threat of accidents, putting the safety of pedestrians and commuters at risk. Operations of the RMC plants are causing severe noise pollution as many plants are operating 24 hours a day. Noise pollution gets worse specially during late night time due to loud and painful noise of trucks honking and reversing.”

On this, residents & netizens have expressed their opinions.
