Pune International Airport has shown a marginal improvement in the global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) rankings, climbing from the 76th position in the April-June quarter (Q2) to the 74th position in the July-September quarter (Q3). This comes after a previous dip earlier this year, when the airport slipped from 71st to 76th in Q2.

ASQ Performance Highlights

The airport’s ASQ rating increased slightly from 4.81 in Q2 to 4.84 in Q3, reflecting an improvement in overall passenger satisfaction. Out of the 31 parameters assessed in the ASQ survey, Pune Airport showed positive changes in areas such as:

  • Ease of access to the airport
  • Navigation inside the terminal
  • Walking distance within the facility

However, three parameters witnessed a decline, including:

  • Value for money for the selected mode of transport (including parking facilities)
  • Waiting time at border/passport control
  • Ease of connecting to other flights

Challenges and Responses

Addressing the decline in the “value for money for transport” parameter, Senior Pune Airport Official defended the airport’s parking charges:

“We charge only ₹60 for 30 minutes of parking, compared to private airports like Delhi and Mumbai, which charge ₹250 for the same duration.”

On the issue of waiting time at border/passport control, Senior Pune Airport Official explained that Pune Airport currently advises passengers to arrive two hours before departure, unlike larger airports that recommend four hours. He clarified:

“It typically takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete passenger credential checks, as per the service level agreement. Rushing this process can complicate passenger identification in the future.”

Global Comparison and ASQ Targets

Pune Airport continues to outshine the global average in ASQ ratings. While the world average for Q3 stands at 4.32, Pune Airport’s score of 4.84 is significantly higher. The airport’s MOU target for 2024 is set at 4.68, meaning it has already surpassed the benchmark by 0.16 points.

Conclusion

The incremental progress in rankings and passenger satisfaction scores underscores Pune Airport’s commitment to improving its services. With ongoing efforts to address weaker parameters, the airport aims to climb further in global rankings, maintaining its position as a leader in passenger experience.
