Pune, May 18, 2023: The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is organizing fourth edition of International Conference on Automotive Materials and Manufacturing AM&M 2023. After 3rd edition conducted in online mode due to COVID 19 pandemic, this conference will be held physically at ARAI – Homologation Technology Center (HTC) at Chakan, Pune, during 31st May to 2nd June 2023. This conference is being organized in association with SAE India and ASM International (Pune Chapter).

The information was announced at a press conference by ARAI Director Dr Reji Mathai in presence of AMM 2023 Convener Medha Jambhale, Sr. Deputy Director Nitin Dhande.

This conference will be hosted at Homologation and Technology Centre (HTC) of ARAI at Chakan Pune. ARAI has been supporting the Automotive Industry for more than 50 years in field of Durability, Fatigue and Materials and established dedicated Fatigue and Material Centre of Excellence (FMCE) in 2016 at HTC. This Centre is supporting Industry for Light Weighting, Alternate Material, Material Characterization, Material Model Card Development, Forging Process development, Durability Evaluation, Environment Validation of Specimen and Product, Product Optimisation, etc.

Dr. Reji Mathai, Director-ARAI, said, “The central theme of AM&M 2023 is ‘Shaping Progressive Mobility through Emerging Materials & Manufacturing Technology’. The automotive industry is striving for fuel efficiency improvement, light weighting of structures, safety requirements, impact on environment, reduction in product development cycles, changing mobility solutions such as e mobility and so on. At the same time Atmanirbhar – Self-reliance is the need of the hour and Material and Manufacturing is backbone of this movement.”

Talking about India’s growth in automotive sector, Dr Reji Mathai further said, “With regard to global automotive manufacturing footprint, India has advanced to third position after China and United States of America. It is  number one in two-wheeler and tractor manufacturing and at number three position when it comes to passenger cars. Considering these leadership positions, the auto component industry in India is also growing significantly and Centre’s PLI (Product Linked Incentive Scheme) worth Rs 28,000 crores is playing an important role. Over 100 products/components have been identified by the government in the scheme and will help growth of automobile industry.”

ARAI facilitates a knowledge-sharing platform; AM&M 2023 for Material and Manufacturing Fraternity. AM&M 2023 will bring together industry leaders and technocrats in the field of material and manufacturing technologies from various industries to discuss innovative ideas, technologies, solutions, challenges, etc. in the field of material and manufacturing.

AMM&M 2023 will focus on recent advances in varied subjects including advanced materials, plastics and composites, manufacturing processes, additive manufacturing, e-mobility, design and simulation, AI & ML, etc.

Medha Jambhale, Senior Deputy Director-ARAI and Convener AM&M 2023 informed that the Symposium will have a great mix of papers from the Industry, R&D Institutes as well as Academia. Over 40+ technical papers will be presented in 15 Technical Sessions over 3 days on the topics related to material and manufacturing. The conference will witness renowned automotive experts sharing their views through 20 keynote addresses and Plenary sessions.

Medha Jambhale further said, “The Fatigue and Material Centre of Excellence has undertaken development of Material Modelling in house. There are very limited companies worldwide, who are working in this area. We have successfully developed this capability and now offering these services to the industry. We have internally taken up the project of material card database development for metals and this project will be launched during the conference. Additionally, we are working on project for development of material card for plastics and composites”.

She also said that ARAI with its associates has developed a Under-Run Protection Device (UPD), which can be used at the rear (RUPD), lateral (LPD) or at the front (FUPD) for absorbing energy effectively during collision.

Highlight of the conference will be a Panel Discussion on “Material for Sustainable Mobility”, wherein Experts, CTO’s, Researchers and Scientists will share their views on this relevant topic of current time.

Some of the key Speakers for the Conference include Dr Ajit Sapre, Group President, Reliance Industries, Dr S.A Illangovan, Outstanding Scientist, ISRO, Dr B Praveenkumar from DRDO.

Conference will also host Sunset Panel Discussion on “Big Data Analytics in Material and Manufacturing” which is a future technology in Automotive Industry. Experts in the field will share their experience about this promising technology.

AM&M 2023 will simultaneously host an Exposition wherein 25 Exhibitors are showcasing their technologies and developments in their booth.
