Pune: Auto Fares Likely To Increase From August 1; Minimum Fare May Rise To ₹30
Pune, July 22, 2026: Auto-rickshaw travel in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad could become more expensive from August 1, with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) expected to approve a proposal to increase fares in response to rising CNG prices.
The proposal is likely to be taken up at an upcoming RTA meeting chaired by the Pune District Collector, where a final decision on the fare revision will be made.
Proposed Fare Revision
According to officials from the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) and representatives of auto-rickshaw unions, the proposed fare structure includes:
- Minimum fare (first 1.5 km): Increase from ₹25 to ₹30
- Fare for every additional kilometre: Increase from ₹17 to ₹20
If approved, the revised fares will come into effect from August 1.
Demand Driven by Rising CNG Prices
Auto-rickshaw unions have been pressing for a fare hike following the recent increase in CNG prices. The cost of CNG in Pune has now reached ₹95.75 per kg, making it difficult for drivers to absorb the higher operating expenses, union representatives said.
Although calculations based on the Khatua Committee formula reportedly justified a higher fare revision, the unions said they have limited their demand to ₹30 for the first 1.5 km and ₹20 per additional kilometre to reduce the financial burden on commuters.
Meters To Be Recalibrated
If the proposal receives approval, auto-rickshaw meters across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will be recalibrated before the revised fares are implemented.
The unions have also requested the RTO to issue an updated fare chart for passengers until meter recalibration is completed, ensuring transparency and avoiding fare-related disputes.
The RTA is expected to take a final call on the proposal at its upcoming meeting. If cleared, it will be the first auto-rickshaw fare revision in the region since the recent hike in CNG prices.
