Pune: Bavdhan Residents Flag Rising Safety, Traffic And Civic Issues; Seek Urgent PMC And Police Action
Pune, February 11, 2026: Residents of multiple housing societies in Bavdhan have raised serious concerns over worsening traffic congestion, public safety risks and inadequate civic services, urging authorities to intervene immediately.
In a joint representation submitted on behalf of several residential communities, locals highlighted persistent gridlock on highways and internal roads, leading to long delays and increased accident risks. According to residents, several stretches have become accident-prone, yet corrective measures such as traffic regulation, signage or road repairs remain pending.
Safety concerns have also intensified, with reported incidents of chain snatching and attempted robberies. Rash and allegedly drunk bikers are said to be endangering pedestrians, particularly children, women and senior citizens. Many elderly residents now avoid stepping out due to fear, while parents remain anxious about their children’s safety.
Adding to the distress are prolonged road excavation works and delayed repairs, leaving key roads in hazardous condition for weeks. Inadequate street lighting in certain pockets has further compounded security issues.
Residents have also alleged poor waste management services, claiming that housing societies are compelled to arrange and pay for private garbage collection despite paying municipal taxes. Additionally, ongoing construction at a major housing development site in the area has reportedly led to dust pollution, noise disturbances, water management issues and safety concerns for neighbouring societies.
Despite repeated representations and meetings with local officials, including discussions with elected representatives, residents claim there has been little visible improvement or accountability.
Terming the situation a “serious public safety concern,” citizens argue that rapid urban growth in Bavdhan has outpaced civic planning and infrastructure support. Housing societies have indicated they are willing to share photographic evidence and detailed accounts to press for swift and responsible action from concerned authorities.
