Residents of Bavdhan feel unsafe as various incidents such as chain snatching, prostitution along highway, service roads, internal roads etc, open alcohol consumption, drug abuse & other incidents which pose a significant safety & security threat to citizens are taking place in Bavdhan. Hence, the residents have demanded urgent implementation of safety measures.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, a Bavdhan Citizens’ Forum (BCF) member, requesting anonymity, said “The BCF wants to bring to the notice of the authorities the seriousness of this issue & some action needs to be taken. If the police are saying that they have taken action but if the result of the action is not happening on ground, what shall we expect? Recently, a woman, who stays across the highway, was approached by someone unknown just because she was going home on that lonely road. If this issue has reached to such a level, you never know, a person might also be just picked up, put in a vehicle & gone. So, this is a really very serious issue. We have also received several complaints from people, running classes in Bavdhan, about girls not willing to come to class after dark as they feel unsafe while walking on the streets. There are several areas where there are dark corners & street lights are very less in number. The main roads & services roads are unsafe.”

As per further information from BCF, 15 days back, the BCF submitted a letter to Pimpri Chinchwad Police where they were assured that action will be taken. However, a follow up meeting revealed that the police didn’t find anything fishy along the service road.

Due to such unsafe incidents happening in Bavdhan, the residents are going to hold a silent protest on 8th March (Women’s Day) at LMD Chowk at 6 pm.

The BCF requests all Bavdhan residents to join the silent protest in maximum numbers to effectively highlight this to the authorities & ensure to make Bavdhan safe for women on Women’s Day.
