In a recent development at the monsoon session of Legislative Assembly, BJP MLA Of Shivajinagar constituency Siddharth Shirole accused administration officials of issuing inflated bills to contractors without extracting silt from city reservoirs and rivers. Shirole alleged collusion between officials and contractors, claiming that despite heavy rain forecasts, no punitive action was taken against negligent contractors.

During a press conference on Monday, Shirole highlighted irregularities in the tender process for desilting operations. He cited an incident at Wakdewadi, where municipal employees witnessed contractors neglecting their duties, yet no action was taken against them. Shirole further stated that following his report to Minister Ajit Pawar, additional authorities were dispatched to investigate.

The desilting tenders, amounting to crores of rupees, were allegedly awarded, but contractors failed to execute their tasks after rainfall filled the rivers again. Municipal authorities reportedly still paid these contractors, indicating a nexus of corruption involving officials, contractors, and local leaders.
