Pune, March 8, 2025: A shocking incident at Shastrinagar Chowk, Yerwada, has sparked public outrage after a video of a drunk youth engaging in obscene behavior on the road went viral on social media. Taking immediate action, Pune police have detained the father of the accused while efforts are underway to locate the absconding youth.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingle confirmed that one of the accused, Bhagyesh Oswal, has been taken into custody and sent for a medical examination. However, the second accused, Gaurav Ahuja, remains absconding. Teams from the Crime Branch and Yerwada Police Station are actively searching for him.
Meanwhile, Gaurav’s father, Manoj Ahuja, a prominent Pune businessman, has been taken into custody for questioning.
Father’s Statement
Expressing his anger and disappointment, Manoj Ahuja said, “I am ashamed that Gaurav is my son. He did not urinate at the signal but on my face. His mobile has been switched off since morning. I accept whatever action is taken against me. The car (BMW MH 12 RF 8419) seen in the video is registered in my name.”
Details of the Incident
According to DCP (Zone 4) Himmat Jadhav, the incident occurred around 7:30 am at Shastrinagar Chowk. The youth was seen urinating and engaging in obscene behavior in public.
Following a complaint by Police Constable Ganesh Thopte (36), an FIR has been registered against the two accused under multiple sections of the law:
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):
- Section 270: Public nuisance
- Section 281: Rash and negligent driving
- Section 285: Danger or obstruction in a public place
- Section 79: Act intended to insult the modesty of a woman
- Maharashtra Police Act:
- Sections 110/112: Causing nuisance in a public place
- Motor Vehicles Act:
- Section 184: Dangerous driving
- Section 185: Drunken driving
- Maharashtra Prohibition Act:
- Section 85: Public intoxication
Police Sub-Inspector Nandkumar Kekan is leading the investigation.
