Pune: Bombay High Court Stops Dhruv Global School, Sus-Nande Branch From Collecting Increased Fees

Pune: Supreme Court Bars Dhruv Global School From Hiking Fees Until DFRC Is Reconstituted Â
Parents’ plea leads to interim relief until the Fee Regulatory Committee is reconstituted.
Pune, August 21, 2025: In a significant relief for parents, the Bombay High Court has restrained Dhruv Global School, Sus-Nande branch owned by Sanjay Malpani, from collecting increased fees for the academic year 2025-26 until a new Fee Regulatory Committee is constituted under the Maharashtra Educational Institutions (Regulation of Fee) Act, 2011.
A group of parents had approached the court seeking the formation of a Divisional Fee Regulatory Committee and a Revision Committee. They highlighted that despite filing an appeal in November 2024, the matter remained pending due to the lapse of the previous committee’s tenure and the delay in forming a new one.
The school’s counsel opposed interim relief, citing statutory restrictions on granting stay orders. Still, the bench of Justices Shree Chandrashekhar and Manjusha Deshpande observed that the appeal had remained undecided for over six months. In its order, the court directed that the school cannot collect the enhanced fee until the appeal is heard.
The State informed the court that steps are being taken to reconstitute the committee with appointments of retired District and High Court judges. With this direction, the writ petition was taken care of.
This verdict comes as a morale boost to parents across Maharashtra fighting against arbitrary fee hikes, emphasizing the importance of timely regulatory oversight in school fee matters.
At the time of writing this report, parents have yet to receive notification from the school regarding the revised fees.
