Pune, August 21, 2025 – The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a dedicated water supply project worth ₹30.87 crore for Shewalewadi, a locality merged with the civic limits in 2021 but still dependent on water tankers.
Acting on directives from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the PMC floated a tender on Wednesday to initiate the project. Executive Engineer (Water Department) Rajesh Shinde said, “Once the tender process is complete and bids are opened, the work order will be issued. The project is expected to be completed in around three months.”

Shewalewadi, with a population of nearly 25,000, has long faced severe water shortages. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Pune district secretary Rahul Shewale said, “I had requested the chief minister for approval of a water scheme last year. He immediately directed the PMC to prepare a feasibility report, which has now led to the tender being floated.”
Local residents have welcomed the move. Sandeep Navale, a resident, said, “We bought flats here but face a daily water crisis. With many new housing projects coming up, the population will double in the next five years. This scheme is essential for a sustainable living environment.”
The project aims to provide a reliable water supply to the rapidly developing area, easing the dependency on water tankers and addressing a long-pending civic demand.
