Pune: PMC Orders Immediate Relocation Of 288 Families From Unsafe Sangamwadi Quarters
Pune, August 21, 2025 – The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has directed the immediate relocation of 288 families from its staff quarters in Sangamwadi after the structures were declared unsafe for habitation.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram inspected the premises on Wednesday following several complaints from residents regarding the deteriorating condition of the buildings. He ordered officials to move the families to safer accommodations without delay.
City Engineer Prashant Waghmare said, “The Sangamwadi quarters are very old and no longer suitable for living. After the commissioner’s inspection, it was decided to relocate all 288 families immediately.”
The issue of dilapidated PMC quarters in Sangamwadi has been raised multiple times in the past, with proposals for redevelopment under consideration. However, the corporation had previously struggled to vacate the premises. With safety concerns escalating, the commissioner’s intervention has now fast-tracked the relocation process.
Officials further revealed that similar structural concerns exist at other PMC staff quarters across the city, highlighting the need for a comprehensive review and redevelopment plan.
