Pune Cantonment Board revives water body situated on Pune Solapur highway

Pune Cantonment Board under the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav had taken up the task of reviving a natural water body situated on the Pune Solapur highway, spread across an area of 1.5 acres on A 1 Defence land.

“The initiative was taken under the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav by the ministry of director general of defence estates under the ministry of defence. This natural spring was neglected and had become a dumping spot gathering filth. The PCB undertook rigorous work at the site and cleaned up the site. The work shall be carried out under three phases, of which the first phase was completed by removing the filth and silt. In the next few days, it will be fenced so that it remains clean, said, ” Amit Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Pune Cantonment Board. 

Sukhdev Patil, assistant executive engineer, Pune Cantonment Board said. “The program of conservation of the water bodies was carried out as per the Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav 75 years of Independence, where in each Cantonment Board was asked to take up the revival of two water bodies. In PCB, we identified a water body next to the electric crematorium while the second is situated near the  Hindustan Church on Pune Solapur Highway. The first one was cleaned within a few weeks, the second one took time as it needed major conservation work. Work carried at this water body was removing grass, desilting, nala channelisation, fencing, installing gate, stone pitching, laying soil and levelling it. Most of the work is over, the gates shall also be installed soon.” 

Patil further added that the second water body spread across 1 acre took about 2nad half months to beautify, beginning from cleaning. It will now have a beautiful garden, bridge to cross and also a selfie point too.
