Kondhwa Police have initiated a case against a used vehicle dealer and three accomplices for allegedly defrauding nine residents of Bhagyodayanagar of ₹1.16 crore between 2020 and June 2024. The accused promised investors returns of 2-3% per month on their investments but failed to deliver on these promises.

The dealer and his brother are the primary suspects. The victims had initially delayed filing a complaint as the suspects requested additional time to repay the invested amounts along with interest. While partial payments were made to some of the victims, the dealer and his aides eventually ceased payments altogether.

A police team is currently pursuing the suspects, and further details about their roles are expected to surface as the investigation progresses, a police official added.

The complaint was lodged by Nisar Shaikh, whose brother, Hamid Shaikh, was also defrauded. Hamid Shaikh, a driver by profession, explained that the dealer, a religious cleric with a substantial online following, had enticed him and others into investing in a business dealing in high-end used luxury vehicles. Despite receiving interest payments for the first 18 months, the suspects stopped payments and eventually closed their business, leading the investors to seek police intervention.

Sameer Shaikh, an electrical contractor and another investor, stated that initial attempts to file a complaint were met with resistance as the suspects had filed a non-cognisable FIR against the investors with baseless allegations. Following persistent efforts and escalation to senior officers, a preliminary inquiry was conducted, documents were reviewed, and the FIR was finally registered. The investors are now calling for the immediate arrest of the suspects.

The Kondhwa Police are actively investigating the case to bring the perpetrators to justice.
