In a striking operation on Monday afternoon, Chakan police unearthed a clandestine marijuana farm nestled within a cornfield in Agarwadi, near Chakan. Authorities seized 66 cannabis plants, collectively weighing 23 kg and valued at approximately Rs 11.5 lakh.

The operation led to the arrest of 65-year-old Sadashiv Appasaheb Deshmukh, a resident of Agarwadi Road in Chakan. A complaint lodged by Police Sub-Inspector Namdev Talwade at Chakan Police Station resulted in Deshmukh being charged under the NDPS Act.

The discovery followed a tip-off received by Assistant Police Inspector Prasanna Jarhad from Chakan Police Station, regarding a farmer illegally cultivating marijuana on his property along Agarwadi Road. Upon inspection, police found the cannabis plants strategically hidden among the corn, each plant standing between eight to ten feet tall.

Following the operation, Deshmukh was taken into custody, with Chakan police continuing their investigation into the incident to unravel any further illicit activities.
