Pune, September 5, 2025 — With Anant Chaturdashi approaching, Pune citizens’ groups have appealed for responsible celebrations and strict adherence to noise pollution regulations during Ganesh immersion processions.

In recent years, traditional dhol–tasha performances have been overshadowed by high-decibel DJ and Dolby sound systems, often exceeding the permissible noise levels under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. Despite court directions, citizens report that police action has been inadequate, with complaints frequently going unanswered.

Earlier, the National Green Tribunal (WZ), hearing a petition filed by Dr. Kalyani Mandke and advocates Maitreya Ghorpade and Mansi Thakre, directed police to take firm action, including registering FIRs, seizing sound systems, and responding promptly to noise complaints.

For citizens facing excessive noise — especially above 75 decibels, which is considered a direct violation — the following complaint channels are available:

Residents are encouraged to document and report violations so that authorities take the issue seriously. Organisers of Ganesh mandals have also been instructed by Pune Police to ensure their sound systems remain within legal limits.

Call 112 or 8975283100 for raising complaints related to the DJ noise pollution.

Citizen representatives under the Pune Samvad initiative have urged, “File complaints in large numbers — through calls, WhatsApp, and email — to ensure strict action. Otherwise, the deafening noise of DJ and Dolby systems will continue unchecked.”
