Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is yet to receive ₹3,045 crore in pending dues from the Maharashtra government, prompting calls for urgent action to recover the funds.

Civic activist Vivek Velankar on Thursday highlighted the issue, urging the administration to prioritise the recovery process. His remarks followed the presentation of the PMC’s ₹15,669-crore budget by standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale, which did not outline any new revenue-generating measures.

Velankar noted that the dues have accumulated over several years, dating back to 2017. He pointed out that a significant portion—₹1,421 crore—relates to pending Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation for areas merged into the city limits. Eleven villages were incorporated in 2017 and an additional 23 in 2021, but corresponding grants have not yet been received.

Another major component includes ₹1,075 crore pending since 2019-20, linked to the civic body’s share of a 1% additional registration fee on property transactions introduced after the scrapping of the Local Body Tax (LBT).

According to Velankar, recovering these funds could substantially strengthen the PMC’s financial position and support the execution of its budget plans.
