Pune Collector Pushes For RMC Policy; Residents Warn Of Protests Over Pollution
Pune, April 25, 2026: Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has directed all concerned stakeholders to submit detailed recommendations within two days to help frame a comprehensive policy for the Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) sector.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting aimed at streamlining regulations for RMC plant installation, operations, and transportation of raw materials and finished concrete. Authorities said the objective is to develop a practical and enforceable framework that balances industry needs with environmental and civic concerns.
Representatives from the Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, traffic police, and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board participated in the discussions, highlighting operational challenges and regulatory gaps within the sector.
Meanwhile, tensions are rising among residents of Wadgaon Khurd, Dhayari, and nearby localities along Sinhagad Road. Local citizens and members of an action committee opposing RMC plants have threatened to launch protests if authorities fail to take immediate action against facilities operating close to residential areas.
Residents allege that several plants are functioning without proper permissions and should be relocated outside city limits. They have raised concerns over increasing dust pollution, claiming that cement particles are entering homes and contributing to respiratory issues, particularly among children and senior citizens.
The group has warned of intensifying agitation if their demands are not addressed promptly.
