Recently, Pune City has witnessed a disruption in cab services as cab drivers initiated a strike against fare hike. It started on Tuesday morning when Pune encountered a disruption as cabs and auto drivers began a strike urging to make fares similar to the ones in Mumbai.

Vinit Deshpande recounted his struggle upon landing at Pune Airport, compelled to resort to an auto-rickshaw due to the unavailability of cabs. This action, spread by the “Baghtoy Rickshawala” and “Motor, Taxi Transport Association” has caused inconvenience to the daily commuters for the past two days.

The demand for fare increases comes amidst the calls for Ola and Uber to adjust their pricing structures.

However, Uber has stated that there will be no surge in cab fares, citing concerns that such a hike could burden passengers with a staggering 60 per cent increase in the total cost of travelling.

The impact of the ongoing strike has been felt the most by the passengers travelling to and from main locations such as the airport, college, Pune Railway Station, ST station, hospitals as well as private and government offices.

Following this, Regional Transport Officer, Sanjeev Bhor has assured that efforts are underway to mediate and find a solution to the increasing dispute between sab drivers and ride-hailing companies.
