Several residents of Mahalunge from several societies like Pristine Equilife Homes & many more are troubled by the continuously flowing toxic water on roads in Shitala devi Nagar, posing health & safety threats to citizens.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Yashpal Adpawar, Resident of Pristine Equilife Homes, Mahalunge, said “The issue is constantly prevalent since a lot of time. Due to rainfall, the drainage line used to get choked up & toxic water would come out. We had contributed & cleaned the toxic water but that is not enough. The PMC came 1 or 2 times & cleaned the toxic water. However, it was temporary. When asked, the PMC says that the quotation & budget for this work is finalized. But the money is used for something as no permanent work is done. Nobody is paying attention here to permanently resolve this toxic water flow issue.”

Vaibhav Dhole, Resident of Pristine Equilife Homes, Mahalunge, said “As the drainage line gets blocked, the toxic water comes on the road. Already in our area, garbage is continuously dumped over which the toxic water comes due to which the stink & health concerns intensify. Along with us, other citizens in the area have to suffer due to this. We constantly follow-up with the PMC regarding this but only temporary solution like cleaning the toxic water on the road is done which is not enough. Permanent solution must be implemented.”

Abhijit Chaugule, Resident of Pristine Equilife Homes, Mahalunge, said “When the development of this area & creation of residential societies was happening, the erstwhile Gram Panchayat was going to put a drainage pipeline. However, due to some monetary disputes from villagers, the pipeline was put only till the area behind the Balewadi stadium where garbage dumping takes place. Not further than that. Also, afterwards, only roads were built. Extending & putting a new, elongated drainage line wasn’t done by anyone. Hence, the toxic water comes on the roads nearby several societies in Shitaladevi Nagar. The PMC Aundh-Baner Ward Office had been requested by us to inspect & permanently resolve the issue. However, no one has come here.”

As per further information from the X handle of Equilife Homes Speaks “In Shitaladevi Nagar area of Mahalunge, many societies have been dealing with the problem of toxic water coming on the road for many years, but no permanent measures are being taken by the PMC.”

Girish Dapkekar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, PMC Aundh-Baner Ward Office, said “A meeting has been done with several society residents regarding the issue where we have taken down their opinions, suggestions, issues etc. The concerned departments will be informed about this and relevant action will be taken soon.”
