Pune: Crackdown On Unauthorized Hotels Sparks Panic Among Mulshi And Maval Operators
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized hotels within Pune’s city limits, following a recent Porsche accident. The authority has published a list of 190 hotels, with several already demolished, leading to widespread panic among hotel operators in Mulshi, Maval, and Haveli.
PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase has urged hotel, bar, and restaurant owners to secure the necessary construction permits before resuming operations. This directive has led many operators to scramble for approvals to avoid potential legal consequences.
In response, hotel, bar, and restaurant owners from Mulshi and Haveli talukas recently petitioned Commissioner Mhase to pause the enforcement actions. They argued that many of these operators are local entrepreneurs and descendants of farmers, and requested additional time to comply with the new regulations. These business owners, who have invested significant amounts in loans to establish their ventures, voiced concerns about financial ruin if forced to close. Some have threatened protests if leniency is not granted, citing delays in obtaining required government documentation.
Despite these appeals, Commissioner Mhase emphasized the importance of adhering to PMRDA regulations. He warned that any future operations without proper approvals would face rigorous enforcement actions.
The ongoing crackdown has already impacted approximately twenty hotels in the Mulshi and Maval areas, with many more under scrutiny. With hundreds of hotels operating in these regions, the pressure to meet regulatory standards is increasing.
Mauli Satpute, President of the Hotel & Bar Association, Mulshi Taluka, commented, “Prior to the formation of PMRDA, hotel owners in Mulshi Taluka obtained permits from the tehsildar. We are now in the process of aligning with PMRDA rules and request additional time to complete this transition.”
