Pune: A 29-year-old man has been booked by Kalepadal Police for allegedly threatening residents with a sword in the Mohammadwadi area, violating prohibitory orders on possession of weapons in the city.

According to police officials from Kalepadal Police Station, the case has been registered, invoking sections 223 and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Section 4(25) of the Indian Arms Act.

The complainant, Mahadev Balaji Shinde (31), a police constable posted at Kalepadal Police Station, filed the complaint regarding the incident.

As per the FIR, the accused, identified as Azeem Pirahmad Sheikh (29), a driver and resident of Ganeshnagar, Mohammadwadi, was found on March 26, 2026, at around 4:30 PM in Galli No. 2 of Ganeshnagar area.

Police stated that despite an official prohibitory order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch, Pune, banning the carrying or use of weapons such as swords and sharp objects in the city, the accused was seen openly wielding a sword.

The weapon recovered from the accused is described as a sharp-edged sword, approximately 28 inches in total length, including a 23-inch blade and a 5-inch handle.

The accused allegedly waved the sword in the air, shouted loudly, intimidated passersby, and struck the weapon against an iron gate in the locality. He also reportedly issued death threats to anyone who tried to intervene.

Police have seized the weapon and recorded the complainant’s statement. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is being carried out by Police Sub-Inspector Vinayak Gurav of Kalepadal Police Station.
