Pune, November 20, 2025: A Pune resident, Aznaan Shaikh, has raised a serious food-safety complaint against Garwa Biryani, a restaurant chain outlet located at Parihar Chowk in Aundh, after allegedly finding a cockroach inside a Chicken Dum Biryani parcel.

Shaikh stated that he had purchased two parcels of Chicken Dum Biryani on Wednesday evening. While eating, he reportedly discovered a cockroach in the second serving, after one full portion had already been consumed.

Following the incident, he immediately returned to the outlet with the contaminated plate. According to Shaikh, there was no manager or responsible authority present at the restaurant at the time.

He alleged that after showing the plate to the staff, they attempted to casually offer a refund instead of acknowledging the seriousness of the food-safety lapse — an offer he refused. Efforts to contact the owner were also unsuccessful as his call went unanswered.

Shaikh expressed concern over the health risks associated with contaminated food and the apparent lack of responsibility shown by the restaurant staff and management.

He has appealed to the Pune FDA to take strict action against Garwa Biryani for allegedly serving unhygienic and unsafe food to customers.
