Pune | February 13, 2026: In a major drug bust, the Air Intelligence Unit of the Pune Customs Commissionerate intercepted a passenger carrying a large consignment of hydroponic marijuana at Pune International Airport on Tuesday.

Acting on specific profiling and intelligence inputs, customs officials stopped a passenger arriving from Bangkok on an Air India Express flight (IX-241). 

During a detailed examination of the passenger’s check-in baggage, officers обнаружed 5,429 grams of hydroponic weed (marijuana), concealed in transparent packets wrapped in carbon paper and hidden inside five toy boxes.

The seized narcotics are estimated to have an illicit market value of approximately ₹5.42 crore. The contraband was immediately confiscated, and the passenger was placed under arrest.

Officials confirmed that legal action has been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. 

Further investigation is currently underway to determine the source of the drugs, the intended recipients, and possible links to an international drug trafficking network.

Customs authorities stated that surveillance and intelligence-based operations at Pune Airport have been intensified to curb cross-border drug smuggling and dismantle organized trafficking routes.
