Pune: Delayed DP Roads Set To Be A Decisive Issue in Khadakwasla Assembly Election As Dhayari Residents Protest
Pune, October 18, 2024:
In the Dhayari-Sinhagad Road area, which has a voter base of over 150,000, the issue of the delayed Development Plan (DP) roads is expected to dominate the Khadakwasla Assembly election. As the election approaches, angry residents of Dhayari and Sinhagad Road have started a symbolic protest at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, raising awareness about the stalled DP roads. This has prompted political candidates from all parties to engage with the residents in an effort to pacify them.
Due to the election process and the imposition of the election code of conduct, government officials are avoiding comments on the matter. To raise awareness about the DP road issue, hundreds of frustrated Dhayari residents held a meeting with strong slogans today.

During the meeting, a social leader from Dhayari, Dhananjay Benkar, said, “Despite spending crores, the DP roads exist only on paper. The traffic congestion issue on the main Sinhagad Road, including Dhayari village, persists. Daily traffic jams continue to trouble residents of Dhayari and the surrounding areas.”
Youth leader Sunny Gajanan Raikar added, “Despite not having the land in possession, crores of rupees have been wasted for the DP road from Sinhagad Road to Dhayari Savitri Garden. Not even 400 meters of road has been constructed.”
Nilesh Ramesh Damishte mentioned, “Even after years of following up with the authorities to clear traffic congestion and execute the work on alternate roads in the development plan, no action has been taken for 28 years. This daily traffic jam impacts school students, patients, and workers.”
Women’s Self Help Group President Bhagyashree Vikas Kamthe stated, “In the past four to five years, the population and the number of vehicles in the area have increased significantly, making the main roads and village roads inadequate. Traffic jams are making travel unsafe, and there is a daily worry about whether students and citizens will return home safely.”
Police and Municipal Machinery Caught in Corruption:
There are not enough police, home guards, or traffic wardens to control the traffic, and many signals are not functioning. Encroachments have worsened the situation, yet the police and municipal machinery seem to be caught up in bribery instead of addressing the issue. This is a serious issue across Sinhagad, Dhayari-Narhe roads, and other areas.
The traffic congestion issue is most severe from the Nanded Phata to Nanded City Gate, Lagad Mala to Dhayari Phata, including Dhayari village and Narhe roads.
The city administration had planned four DP roads in Dhayari 28 years ago, but no action has been taken since. In some places, only partial land acquisition has been done. Despite no DP roads physically existing, municipal officers are granting permissions to builders.
Dhayari residents are angry because no action has been taken by the municipal administration, state government, or even after writing to the President and Prime Minister regarding the DP road issue.
